Harrowing footage published on social media shows first responders rushing at the Florida State University campus on Thursday during an active shooter situation.

Different videos also show students running away and the sounds of gunshots.

Law enforcement responding to the situation confirmed five people are dead and four others are injured. According to official reports, two shooters were involved, one of whom is dead.

A Tallahassee Police spokesperson confirmed that one person is in custody, per the Associated Press. The extent of the injured victims' injuries was not immediately known, and authorities have not released additional details about the person in custody.

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare hospital confirmed that it is "actively receiving and caring for patients related to an incident that has occurred at Florida State University" following an active shooter situation.

FSU student Daniella Streety, told NBC News she believes the shots rang out around noon inside the Student Union, one of the busiest parts of campus.

University authorities have not yet cleared people to leave their shelter, advising them to continue there and "await further instructions." "Police have responded to an active shooter call at the Student Union. Stay alert for more information," reads the latest communication from the authorities on X.

USA TODAY reports that President Donald Trump says he has been "fully briefed" on the situation.
