Over the past few weeks, Kamala Harris has been receiving support and endorsements for her candidacy from unexpected places. First it was Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz, who labeled Trump a "danger to democracy". A couple of days later it was Alberto R. Gonzales, U.S. attorney general and counsel to the president during the George W. Bush administration.
Former GOP Senator Jeff Flake soon followed and it wasn't long before more than 100 former Republican congress members and national security officials from Republican administrations had joined the Harris' campaign's list of endorsements.
On Wednesday, Olivia Troye, ex-national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence during the Trump administration, further endorsed Harris by appearing in an ad in touting the vice president's border plan as the best option for the U.S.
"Kamala Harris is a leader we need to keep our country safe and strong," Troye says in the 30-second ad. "As a homeland security expert, I trust her to protect the border. Kamala Harris's plan will strengthen our border security and crack down on drug smuggling and human trafficking." The 30-second ad, titled "Protect," dropped on the campaign's official digital platforms just before the vice presidential debate.
Troye has been vocal about her support for the Harris-Walz ticket before. She was part of the launch of "Republicans for Harris," which included more than 25 GOP endorsements. She also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August and has been outspoken on social media about Trump, providing insights from her unique POV as a former member of his administration.
Just two days ago Troy published a post on X in the aftermath of hurricane Helene to support the current administration's stance and take a jab at Trump in the process:
Let me be very clear: As a Homeland Security Advisor in the Trump White House, I witnessed firsthand how Donald Trump politicized disaster relief, leaving devastated Americans waiting for help. Leaders across the country & government were calling my office, desperate for action as Trump failed them in moments of crisis. Today, he's once again failing Americans by distorting the facts & spreading lies. The reality? The Biden-Harris Administration is stepping up in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene with decisive leadership & a swift, effective response.
