Mother's Day is just around the corner and we're already celebrating! This holiday is a celebration that not only honors mothers, but also motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. Although Mother's Day should be held every day, this special occasion is the perfect timing for family get togethers, the perfect timing to shower mamá with gifts and the perfect timing to demonstrate just how important she is in your life.
This special day is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. In the U.S., it is celebrated the second Sunday of the month of May. We honor Mother’s Day with a fun piece dedicated to all Latina moms by noting things that set them apart from the rest. Here are some ways to distinguish la madre Latina!
1. The Latina moms’ favorite form of discipline is with a chancleta (flip-flop) ---yup, you know it's true!
2. They love to cook a lot…and I mean, a lot, of food!
3. The best part, however, is that their home cooking is finger-licking good!
4. Then they complain that their son or daughter is gaining weight.
5. Whatever your age, they won’t go to sleep until you’re home.
6. They don’t care if it’s 4 a.m. They will wait for you as they watch midnight re-runs of “Caso Cerrado."
7. And all because they are extremely overprotective.
8. They refer to every game system console as a “Nintendo.”
9. The “quinceañera” party is a must, even if it costs an arm and a leg.
10. They refuse to let you leave the house with your hair wet.
11. And they make sure you always wear a sweater ---even when it's not cold!
12. Every Latina mom loves Julio Iglesias.
13. And they are a sucker for Juan Gabriel, too. Especially when he “shimmies” on stage.
14. They will blast merengue music while they clean the house in the morning.
15. Speaking of house chores, some Latina mom's just LOVE doing everybody's laundry.
16. It used to be "Sabado Gigante," but, they will religiously watch any entertainment variety show. Even if they're not fans.
17. Chayanne is every Latina mom's ultimate bae.
18. Angelica Maria is every Latina mom's spirit animal.
19. They won't kick you out of the house when you're 18.
20. They know everything and affirm it with the saying: “Mas sabe el diablo por viejo, que por diablo” (The devil knows more because he’s old, than because he’s the devil).
21.They will find 100 different home remedies for when you're sick.
