Savannah Guthrie allegedly flipped-off Matt Lauer in the midst of an on-air demonstration outside NBC's "Today" show studios in midtown Manhattan on Friday. However, on social media, Guthrie asked viewers and critics to decide for themselves.
The suspect motion occurred while Guthrie was operating a vacuum cleaner during a demonstration on the morning talk program. Guthrie appeared to stumble while sweeping, eliciting a snarky remark from Lauer: "Is this the first time Savannah has ever vacuumed?"
In response, Savannah Guthrie pointed at Matt Lauer for a brief moment, with an angry look on the anchor's face. As the segment was being filmed outdoors, there were a number of onlookers at the time of the alleged middle finger incident, many who took to social media to decry Guthrie's supposed action. Following the "Today" show, Guthrie posted a response to accusations on Twitter: "Folks!! That was my INDEX finger!" she wrote, later posting a still shot of the incident.
Guthrie claimed it she was merely pointing irritably at Lauer with her index finger, which pointing upturned in real time may appear to be one's middle finger. However, some say no matter what, Guthrie's expression said "middle finger."
