Mexican director Guillermo del Toro will take part in the 68th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, this time as part of the judge panel headed by the filmmaking brothers Joel and Ethan Coen. Del Toro says he owes a lot to the festival and feels “great responsibility “ which he takes very seriously. “Cannes started my career when 'Chronos' won the Critics Week," del Toro told the press about his debut in 1993. The "Pan's Labyrinth" director is also excited to give new generations of talent a chance.
Newcomer, Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan, whose film "Mommy" won the Jury Prize at last year's festival. At only 26 years old, Dolan is “extremely excited” to be on the “other side of the mirror” as one of the judges, just a year after his debut. “And I didn't think it would come as early on in my life, so it's very inspiring, we'll see. I can't think of a better preparation for the movie I'm about to embark on, to see like 25 films.”
Other members of the jury include British star Siena Miller, French actress Sophie Marceau, actor Jake Gyllenhaal and Malian actress Rokia Traore. As well as Spanish movie star Rossy de Palma, who expressed deep excitement to be considered for the prestigious position, “I'm very honored, really very honored. Such a pleasure, I'm so happy, it's like a dream,” she said. For the first time, the Festival will commence with a woman directed film, “La Tete Haute” by Emmanuelle Bercot, starring Catherine Deneuve. The 68th edition of the film festival will run from May 13 to May 24.
