Rockstar’s hit game “Grand Theft Auto V” was only just released less than a year ago, back in September 2013. But that hasn’t stopped the rumors that the company is already in development of the next iteration. In fact new reports suggest that Rockstar has over “45 years worth of ideas” for “Grand Theft Auto VI” and the company has already started development on the next iteration of the hit game.
"We’ve got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do,” Rockstar president Leslie Benzies told Develop. “We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas.”
Benzies continued giving details about the idea process saying, "It comes from the idea first. Where is it going to be set is the first question. Then that defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the missions in.”
While this is far from evidence that Rockstar is already in development for GTA 6 it is worth noting that by the end of “Grand theft Auto IV’s” development cycle Rockstar had started conceiving what would eventually become GTA 5. Plus according to iDigital Times Rockstar has historically released multiple GTA titles per console. The PlayStation 2 had tons of Rockstar titles while both GTA 4 and GTA 5 were both part of the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. So we should definitely be seeing some GTA games for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
Rockstar makes a tremendous amount of money and by doing so it gives the gaming company privilege to release new iterations of “Grand Theft Auto” whenever they like. So there is no immediate rush for Rockstar to leap into a new title especially since GTA V and “Grand Theft Auto Online” are working but just because the title doesn't have an immediate release date doesn't mean Rockstar isn't work the title.
