Bloodshed. Man-eating sharks. F-16 fighter jets. Submarines. It really is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Just in time for the holidays, Rockstar Games has released five tantalizing new screen shots from the highly anticipated 15th entry in the "Grand Theft Auto" video game series, "Grand Theft Auto 5."
Rockstar hasn't said much so far about its latest title, other than a teasing a press release that "GTA 5" is a "bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer," according to the Guardian. As for the game's plot, Rockstar has only ominously said that once again the focus of the game is the pursuit of the "almighty dollar." The company has also confirmed that "GTA 5" will also once again be set in the fictional re-imagined version of Southern California known as Los Santos, which was first portrayed in "GTA 4: San Andreas."
These five new images provide promising hints of what's to come, though. Based off the pictures, Rockstar seems to be suggesting that in "GTA 5" players may get to fly F-16 fighter jets and more planes, interact with sharks and possibly other creatures, and explore the sea in widened underwater game play via submarines, and potentially even more.
According to Gamenguide.com, "GTA 5" will strike away from some of the traditional game play characteristics of past iterations of the series. The new game includes new types of missions called "Dynamic Missions," in which players encounter scenarios that may lead to missions like finding a car with dead bodies or picking up a mysterious hitchhiker. Rockstar says the new feature is designed to make downtime in between formal missions more engaging.
"GTA 5" will also break away from the series' past narrative structure, and will feature three protagonists, as opposed to just one.
"Unlike previous games in the series, there will be three protagonists with each individual character having his very own separate life away from the main story. This means that each protagonist has his own friends, home and extracurricular activities," reports Gamenguide.com.
"Grand Theft Auto 5" will be released in spring 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar has yet to comment on whether or not the game will be available for PC or Wii U.
