Grupo Firme, a Mexican band, has received threats to refrain from playing in Sinaloa. The message featured a "blanket," term used for the banners used to write such messages in the country and also featured a severed head inside a cooler, Infobae reported.
"Grupo Firme, if you play at the Mazatlan Carnival we'll kill you all. Remember that you live in Tijuana so we'll kill even those who set up the lights;" reads the reported message.
While no one has claimed ownership of the message, they are usually left by cartels who dislike the musician in question, sometimes due to alleged ties with other criminal organizations.
The Mazatlan Carnival will take place between February 27 and March 4. Placido Domingo, Jorge Medina & Josi Cuen, Alejandro Sanz and La Adictiva are also expected to perform.
Other artists to have received threats are Natanael Cano, Peso Pluma and Oscar Maydon. The former received a threat in early January that was s deemed credible enough for Sonora State Prosecutor Gustavo Salas to intervene. It surfaced in the form of a "narcomanta" (a cartel banner) at a high school in Hermosillo, Mexico.
The banner read: "Stick to your profession as musicians. This isn't about singing corridos, it's about collaborating financially or through any illegal actions. If you ignore this warning, you will be executed. Att. Jalisco Mata Salaz." The message was printed on a tarp, which is a method often used by criminal organizations for public threats.
Several individuals were named in the warning, including Cano (nicknamed "El Nata" by his fans), Tito Torbellino Jr., Javier Rosas, and local groups in Hermosillo, Guaymas, Ciudad Obregón, and Navojoa.
Cano, however, posted a picture expressing his thoughts on the threat with a sarcastic caption: "The only blankets I'm worried about right now. Do you think they'll keep me warm?" followed by a laughing emoji. The photo showed two blankets featuring his face on a bed.
Maydon, on his end, received death threats in the Mexican cityof Aguascalientes. Maydon was scheduled to perform on February 8 at the Palenque de la Feria de Aguascalientes alongside Sebastián Cruz and Víctor Mendivil.
However, due to the threats, event organizer ShowTicket announced via social media that the concert had been canceled.
