What a sad bitter life it might be for Tardar Sauce, aka Grumpy Cat, now that she signed a movie deal to star in a Garfield-like feature film.
Oh boo, it just couldn't get any worse for the cranky-faced kitty voted Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, who has also appeared in many shows including Today, Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Anderson Cooper Live, VH1 Morning Buzz and The Soup.
With more than 930,000 likes on her Facebook page and over 120,000 subscribers on YouTube, Grumpy Cat also stars in a collection of webisodes in partnership with Friskies and the "Will Kitty Play With It" series.
If you want to know why life for Grumpy Cat is even more miserable, she has her own merchandise that is sold by Wal-mart, Hot Topic, Thinkgeek and many other retail stores.
With all of this going on, of course the feline Internet sensation needed representation, and although her first answer was "no," she ended up getting Ben Lashes as her manager and Al Hassas as her rep. They teamed up with Todd Garner and Sean Robins of Broken Road Productions (Jack and Jill, Zookeeper) and are producing and assembling the Grumpy Cat movie package.
So far there are not a lot of details about the film, but Garner is working on another movie right now starring Will Ferrell and Jack Black that is believed to attract and prepare the family-film crowd before Grumpy Cat comes out.
"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy," Garner said. "You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."
