The Green Bay Packers travel to Minneapolis on Sunday evening to face off against their NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings at the Mall of America Field at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome for Week 8. The Packers will try to firm up their playoff hopes, entering the game with a 4-2 record after a home win against the Cleveland Browns last week, while the 1-5 Vikings will do their best to get over their embarrassing 23-7 Monday Night Football defeat against fellow basement-dwellers New York Giants. Last week, the Vikings were a sort of shoulder to cry on for the lowly Giants. After the game, the New York locker room hosted all kinds of expressions of relief and back-patting, too. "It's good to be smiling and have a little excitement in the locker room afterward,'' said Giants QB Eli Manning. "We needed this. Hopefully we keep it going.'' And Giants co-owner Steve Tisch said it was "nice to exhale" after his team posted their first win. So the Vikings will likely be playing with a bit of animus against their division rivals.

One of the keys to hanging in there against the Packers might be Adrian Peterson, who all last season had a blast playing against Green Bay, running for 508 yards and two touchdowns in three games against the Pack. In 13 career games against Green Bay, he's notched 1,541 rushing yards, a per-carry average of 5.5 yards, 44 runs of 10 yards and nine touchdowns. Vikings.com notes that "it's been a while since voice of the Vikings Radio Network Paul Allen has been able to provide one of his patented 'He's looose!' calls to accentuate a long Adrian Peterson touchdown run. If the Vikings are going to find a way to hold serve at home and upset the Packers, though, they're going to need a few of these moments."

The heavily favored Packers will go to work without three of their top four receivers: tight end Jermichael Finley went down against the Browns last week with a neck injury, and Randall Cobb suffered a broken fibula against the Ravens. James Jones will be out, too. Rookie running back Eddie Lacy might need to pick up a bit of the slack for the traditionally pass-heavy Packers offense. Last week he put on a decent performance, rushing 22 times for 82 yards and a score. For those of you trying to catch the two squads square off on Sunday, just tune into NBC at 8:30pm RST on Oct. 25.
