On the "Grandes Temas De Telenovela" television special, some of the greatest telenovela theme songs were showcased. Telenovela lovers were treated to a medley from Alejandro Fernández that had us remember the themes to soaps like "El Derecho De Nacer," "Niña, Amada Mía," "Mañana Es Para Siempre," "María Isabel" and many others. Other acts that performed on stage were Thalía, Daniela Romo, Emmanuel, Yuri and Mijares. The special was aired Sunday night in the U.S. on Univision and in México on El Canal de las Estrellas. There was one very notable exception from the stateside broadcast as the Aleks Syntek bit was cut off completely. Why would Univision do that to us?
The Hispanic network is not to be scissor happy and makes edits to all of the Televisa telenovelas. Maybe they do it due to time restrictions? To add more commercials? Sometimes they just censor words that are appropriate for a Mexican audience but not for a Latino audience in the U.S. But was the Sytenk performance that offensive for the No. 1 Spanish network in the United States of America to censor it and cut it out? The truth is that it was not. Aleks performed "Loca," which was the theme song used for "Los Exitosos Pérez," a telenovela shot in Argentina starring Ludwika Paleta and Jaime Camil.
Turns out that there was an ordeal with who distributed that series co-produced by Televisa and Endemol. The distributor ultimately sold the rights to MundoFOX in the U.S. and Univision lost out on airing it. For the launch of the Spanish network, "Los Exitosos" was part of their premiere programming during primetime as it also included the participation of Veronica Castro. Having the "Los Ricos También Lloran" in their roster was huge as it marked her return to the genre that made her a household name. Eventually there was some turmoil within the production and Castro left the series, but that's a different story. Watch the Aleks Syntek performance down below that Univision did not want you to see!
