According to online retailer Newegg, the release date of Gran Turismo 6, or GT6, is expected to be as early as November 2013. The Newegg listing also revealed that the title will be available on the outgoing PS3 console.
PlayStation Lifestyle first reported the online listing of Gran Turismo 6, the next iteration of the 15-year-old racing game franchise. Gran Turismo 6 release date reports quickly spread among media outlets following PlayStation Lifestyle's article. Blogs, including Gran Turismo authority GTPlanet, shared information of the Newegg listing as well.
Despite the snowballing reports, racing sim diehards will remember that game developer Polyphony took five years since Gran Turismo 4 before the company released Gran Turismo 5. Given Polyphony's history for delays, the November 2013 Gran Turismo 6 release date might be too good to be true. Eventually, Newegg removed the Gran Turismo 6 release date from their page.
On the other hand, gaming industry observers can argue that the November 2013 Gran Turismo 6 release day may be too late. Since the next generation PlayStation 4 console is expected to hit store shelves during the holiday season of 2013, the upcoming Gran Turismo title for PS3 may already be outdated and obsolete before its release.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's SVP Michael Denny first confirmed that Gran Turismo 6 would remain a PS3 title in an interview with Silicon Republic.
Stay tuned as we await an official Gran Turismo 6 release date announcement in the months ahead.
