KTM X-Bow R in Gran Turismo 6 Polyphony

This evening, Jordan of GTPlanet shared the experience of his privileged opportunity to test drive the new Gran Turismo 6 racing game. Present at the big 15th anniversary Gran Turismo event at Silverstone, GTPlanet clears up some of the hype behind Polyphony's new driving simulator.

While the video cuts off on the third lap, Jordan does share a number of revealing information regarding the gameplay.

Driving a KTM X-Bow R on the same circuit the Gran Turismo event is held, Jordan walks through the hands-on impressions.

"Above, you’ll see a few (admittedly quite slow) laps around Silverstone International Circuit in one of GT6‘s new cars, the KTM X-Bow R, along with a brief replay."

Jumping right into it, Jordon goes over the settings on his X-Bow. "With traction control disabled and ABS set to 1 (I didn’t notice SRF was “on”…ugh, sorry!), it felt difficult to be “quick” around the track. However, the car was also easier to control, as if I had a better sense of the level of grip available at each wheel and exactly what the car was doing. It felt good."

From real-world tests on the KTM X-Bow R, we know the go-kart on steroids is an animal on the track. However, what about the new physics engine? Can it actually possible for a physics engine to seriously translate digital information with such tactility? Not yet."

"It’s hard to describe," began Jordan. "But let’s just say I think it will be hard to go back to Gran Turismo 5 after having experiencing GT6."

"When I play an older Gran Turismo game, I notice a kind of “numbness” or “dullness” in the handling characteristics of the cars," Jordan explained. "After having become accustomed to GT5. Now, I think I will feel the same way about GT5 the next time I play it."

Ultimately, GTPlanet believes Polyphony Digital's partnership with tire manufacturer Yokohama rubber and suspension company KW Automotive has been a great success.

"Changes were immediately apparent to me after having spent only a very short time with the new game."

Be sure to watch the exclusive video below to see Gran Turismo 6 in action. GTPlanet's Jordan recorded the audio via the television's line-out headphone jack but assures the sounds are significantly improved. Jordan promises the GT6 produces a rougher more visceral audio texture for the engine note that is more satisfying than GT5.
