Republicans are backing president Donald Trump's kick off of a trade war, with Marjorie Taylor Greene telling Americans: "We will win this trade war."

Greene made the passionate statement in a post published on X on Sunday.

"America is tired of getting kicked in the teeth by the rest of the world and Americans are fed up with American leaders that are weak and afraid," Greene said.

She viewed Trump's trade war as an effective, political tool.

"Tariffs are a powerful, proven source of leverage for protecting our national interest," Greene said.

Kristi Noem, the newly elected leader of the Department of Homeland Security, also backed Trump. "Canada needs to come to the table," she told NBC News on Sunday.

"They need to work with us to make sure that not only can we be good neighbors, but that we can help each other's economies by getting in line," she added.

Before Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced retaliatory tariffs against the U.S., Texas Governor Greg Abbott warned him: "The Texas economy is larger than Canada's. And we're not afraid to use it."

House Speaker Mike Johnson also fell in line with Trump. "President Trump is positioning America to be safe and successful again," he wrote on X on Saturday.

"This is long overdue," he added.

Matt Gaetz also expressed his support of Trump's tariffs and trade war.

Mexico is a captive narco-state," he wrote in a post published on X.

"The best way to win a trade war against them is to shut off the meth/fentanyl pipeline from Sinaloa," he added.
