Republican legislators are being called out for past attacks aimed at American companies and businesses after they slammed Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for mocking Tesla's recent drop in stock.

Walz has recently been touring Republican-held congressional districts in Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin, speaking to constituents about the Democratic Party's historic loss in November of last year. Speaking to a crowd in Wisconsin on Tuesday, Walz started talking about how Tesla stock doing poorly was improving his mood, attacking Trump ally and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

"There's this thing on my phone, I know some of you know this, on the iPhone they've got that little stock app," Walz said.

"I added Tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day," he continued as the crowd began to laugh. "225 and dropping!"

Republican legislators and Trump allies immediately took to online platforms to criticize Walz for the quip or attempt to hold him accountable for his statements.

"Sometimes when I need a little boost, I look at the @JDVance portrait in the @WhiteHouse and thank the Lord," Musk wrote in response to Walz's post.

Furthermore, the X account representing the Republican House Judiciary took to social media to slam Walz.

"Democrats are CHEERING for American companies to fail. Disgusting behavior," they wrote.

"Small, petty, vindictive, evil bastard. Represents today's Democrats well," wrote Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

However, other users were quick to point out the hypocrisy in these statements, particularly since members of the GOP have launched numerous attacks against American companies in the past for not aligning with their values.

Users repeatedly brought up the Republican war on Bud Light after the company partnered with a transgender influencer to promote their product in 2023. The ad elicited intense backlash from Republicans and caused both the influencer and the company to become the subject of boycotts and online vitriol.

"From the people that shot guns at bud light," said one user.

"Teddy here calls Tim Walz petty and evil for cheering on Tesla's cratering stock value. I guess he forgot about fully losing his shit for MONTHS because Bud Light sent a personalized can to an influencer," wrote another user, taking aim at Cruz specifically.

"Y'all have waged multi-year-long wars on Disney, Bud Light, Target, Netflix, the NFL, etc, etc, and now y'all wanna pull this s***?" said a third.

"It was sure ok for MAGA to shoot cases of Bud Light and try to cancel the brand but we can't call for a Tesla boycott without being called domestic terrorists? Seems unfair," another user wrote.

Users also mentioned other brands and companies that have been subject to Republican backlash, including the MLB, Target, Netflix and the NFL.
