Google Play Music app is now available on the iOS platform, six months after the music subscription service was announced by Google. This service has been available for Android powered devices and the web. Google Play Music comes to Apple's ecosystem in an environment already crowded by other similar apps like Spotify and Apple's very own iTunes Radio. The Google Play Music is a free service that allows users to listen to any of the songs backed up to Google's cloud, up to 20,000 tracks. It also allows users to create mixes of the songs in your collection in a similar fashion as the paid model. The All Access plan costs $9.99 a month and you are able to stream or download to your mobile devices from the Google catalog. Users can create ad-free radio stations from the artist, song, album of their choice and it has unlimited skipping. Another feature is within the radio as you are able to see the songs on deck and are able to queue or delete upcoming tracks.
Apple's iTunes Radio is already integrated within the Music app of iOS devices and users do not need to download a seperate app. iTunes Radio is free and supported by ads, but if you want the ad-free experience you will have to subscripe to iTunes Match, for $24.99 a year, which lets you store all your music library in the cloud. The differente with Google's offering is that iTunes Radio is only a streaming service, it does not allow you to download tracks and is not integrated with the purchases you already have. iTunes Radio dows allow users to star their own station by choosing an artist, song or genre and allows you to edit the station by adding music, build new oens or adjust the mix while you listen. With features like Play More Liks This and Never Play This Song, users are able to listen to what the want.
Spotify resembles Google Play Music more closely as you are able to download music to your device and listen offline with a subscription if you pay the $9.99 a month. This music service also has a free option supported by ads, but only allows you to stream on your desktop and a $4.99 option to do the same without ads. Spotify is tied to your Facebook account and is social in that way allowing users to share specialized playlists and a radio feature that works just the same as Google's app. The market is saturated and it's the end users that have the last word on what they like or don't like or who they want to pay or not. If you are an iOS user your best options are iTunes Radio or Spotify if you want a whole library of music available to you. If you are an Android user Google is the best bet.
