The "playground is open" and it loos like many players are involved. Google has sent out invitations for an Android event on Oct. 29 in New York City. The event will be live streamed from http://www.youtube.com/android and is set to start at 10 a.m.
According to Business Insider's Steve Kovach, "the announcement will likely be for Google's new Nexus phone, which is rumored to be made by LG."
"It's also possible Google will team up with other hardware manufacturers to make Nexus devices this year," Kovach wrote. "The LG Nexus is said to be a variant of the LG Optimus G, which recently launched."
Kovach said there are rumors Google will offer a new Nexus 7 model with 32 GB. The entry-level 16 GB Nexus 7 could also drop to $99 from $199.
Forbes' contributor Robert Hof said the "playground" on the invitations might be connected to other Google features.
"'Playground' seems likely to refer to Google Play, the Android apps and content marketplace, so it wouldn't be surprising to see updates or new content deals announced," Hof said. "One interesting note, which may mean absolutely nothing: The artwork on the invitation closely resembles the drawings associated with its Google Now automated personal assistant on Android."
It in interesting to note that it was about this time last year that Google first introduced the Samsung Galaxy Nexus running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Interestingly enough, Google's Android event comes just a few hours before Microsoft is scheduled to announce the final specifications for Windows 8 - its mobile phone operating system.
Apple is holding an event the week before on Oct. 23 where it is expected to announce the iPad mini.
