“Good Morning America” co-hosts T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have been facing scrutiny since the unveiling of their alleged affair and this has now officially affected their professional lives as the pair have been taken off the air.
According to a source close to the matter, ABC News President Kim Godwin addressed the staff stating the decision was “not easy,” but “necessary for the brand.”
“I’m going to talk about something that has become an internal and an external distraction: The relationship between two of our colleagues,” said Godwin. “And so, I want to say that while that relationship is not a violation of company policy, I have really taken the last few days to think about and work through what I think is best for the ABC News organization. And so, for now, I am going to take Amy and TJ off the air, while we figure this out.”
News of Holmes and Robach’s relationship was first reported by Dailymail.com in late November when photos of the two cozying up intimately at a New York City bar were leaked. There were also photos of the pair at each other’s apartments and at a secluded cottage in Upstate New York.
Shortly after the photos were released to the public, Robach and Holmes deleted their Instagram accounts. According to sources, the affair had been going on for months around the time they began training for the New York City Half Marathon in March.
Sources also claim that Holmes and Robach had separated from their spouses back in August. According to an insider, Robach was planning on divorcing her husband before the GMA drama saga began.
"They were waiting on [the settlement] to tell people,” said the insider to People. "The whole point of why she waited to share the news that her marriage was over: she went to [divorce] mediation."
At this point, the marriage betweeen Robach and Shue is reportedly "almost finalized."
Robach has been married Actor Andrew Shue since 2010. Holmes has been married to Attorney Marilee Fiebig since 2010 as well.
As their suspension is temporary, no one can really say how long they will be off the air, if they will return or how everything will play out.
