Mexican pop icon Gloria Trevi’s latest controversy is about a biopic based on the star’s life which she claims she “did not authorize.” The movie looks like it touches on what must be very soar subjects for the singer like her the infamous Trevi-Andrade clan scandal to which she owes her five years in prison. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter said the film's producers said Trevi signed a notarized contract allowing for the biopic's production, including musical rights. "The contract is not subject to script authorization on behalf of Gloria Trevi; in fact she read the screenplay in 2010, was fully in agreement and even passed along some notes which have since been included," a producers' statement said. So by the look of it, the singer no longer wants full disclosure of her past.
Evidently, this has raised suspicion of what else the star is hiding, after staging a successful career comeback, nine years after being released from prison. In 2013, Trevi starred in the telenovela “Libre para amarte,” and ironically, released a new album called “De película,” which means “Like a movie.” Needless to say, the legal battle did not dissuade the movie makers from starting the project.
The film’s been shooting since last November 29, in Mexico and Brazil with Mexico's Rio Negro, producing with Academy-Award-winning “Lord of the Rings” producer Barrie Osborne, Alan Curtiss (“Master and Commander: Far Side of the World”) and Ocean Films Brasil. The movie has become a highly anticipated must-see which has yet to set a release date. Originally it was set to be in theaters in 2014 but that remains to be established. We kind of can’t wait. Will you go see the movie?
