A 9-year-old Brooklyn girl landed a free trip to Disney Worldfor exhibiting unusual bravery— after surviving by hiding in the closet, while her dad slaughtered her mother and two sisters in a cold-blooded murder on her birthday before killing himself.

The incident occurred on April 5, when the little girl was at home with her mother and two older half-sisters in Brownsville when her father, Joseph McCrimons gunned them down as she hid in a closet and mustered up the courage to alert cops.

The Detectives Endowment Association revealed that the responding officers, operating out of Brooklyn North Homicide Squad, the 73rd precinct, and PSA #2, were so heartbroken and moved by the girl’s trauma that they decided to amass “several thousand dollars” to sponsor her trip to an amusement park with her aunt, uncle, two cousins, and grandma to accompany her for the trip. JetBlue reportedly agreed to contribute the plane tickets.

In addition to the Disney World passes, the union maintained that the girl was also honored with an American Girl doll, a mini-shield, a certificate making her an honorary detective, and other DEA regalia by the officers. The girl’s relatives have been gifted a few items as well, given how they will be looking after her.

DEA President Paul Digiacomo expressed his gratitude to the benevolence of NYC detectives and stated, “New York City detectives always go above and beyond. That’s why they are the greatest detectives in the world.”

“Daddy was coming over for my birthday, and he shot people,” the girl told a 911 operator, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said at the time, as reported in the New York Post. “She was weeping and crying [that she] ‘didn’t have presents.’ It was heartbreaking to hear that. We found her hidden in a closet,” he added.

Detectives Bartek, Erick Parks, and Jean Louis of the Brooklyn North Homicide Squad along with Detectives Trevor White and Rene Orrego of the 73 precincts and Det. Felicia Richards of PSA #2 were all honored and helped with the fundraising drive on Friday during the DEA’s Detectives of the Month presentation, as reported on Fox News.
