Geri Halliwell, also known as Ginger Spice in the hit '90s all-girl group Spice Girls, finally addressed hookup rumors. According to Halliwell, she did not hook up with former bandmate Melanie Brown, also known as Scary Spice and Mel B, back in their younger days and further said that “it's simply not true.”
Halliwell issued an official statement to Daily Mail revealing how affected she was by the rumors. “It has been very disappointing to read about all these rumours again, especially on Mother’s Day of all days,” Ginger Spice’s statement said.
The statement then directly cut to the chase and expressed her side of the story. “Geri loves the Spice Girls: Emma, Melanie, Melanie and Victoria [Beckham],” Halliwell’s statement said. “She would like [the fans] to know that what has been reported recently is simply not true and has been very hurtful to her family.”
During a taping of Piers Morgan’s show “Life Stories” last month, Morgan tried to get Mel B to reveal about some rumors he heard. “There were rumors that you and Geri were more than just good friends…” Morgan started.
However, Mel B initially refused to answer and asked another Spice Girls member who was in the audience, Mel C, to answer the question for her. “I don’t know anything,” Mel B replied. “I don’t, this is all new to me.”
Morgan persisted and asked more directly if Mel B slept with Geri. “Yeah, we all slept in a bed together but not ‘like that’ all of us,” the singer responded. “Did you sleep with Geri ‘like that?’” Piers asked again.
While Mel B never confirmed verbally, she nodded and smiled. “She's going to hate me for this because she's all posh in her country house and her husband,” the singer later added. “But it's a fact. It just happened and we just giggled at it and that was it.”
Despite Geri’s denial of Mel B’s hookup claims, she did not seem angry at her bandmate and even expressed her excitement to see the group again. “Moving forward, Geri can’t wait to see the girls and all the fans on the tour, have an amazing time with everyone, and make some new memories.”
