Geraldo Rivera just proved that there is some common sense in that controversial mind of his. The Fox news anchor opened up about his friendship with Donald Trump on Tuesday, and revealed that even though he’s had a friendly relationship with the GOP front-runner for the past 25 years, he would “never, never vote for him.”
“Even though I like the guy very much as a person, I could never, never vote for him unless he profoundly moderates his positions,” Rivera said during an interview with “The VIP Room.”
The 72-year-old journalist also added that he is not surprised by the reactions the Latino community, and the rest of the world, has had regarding Trump’s inaccurate remarks about Mexican immigrants.
“I think the heat [Trump is receiving] is richly deserved,” the “Dancing With The Stars” former contestant told FOX News Latino. “His position on Mexican immigrants is hideous and indefensible and widely inaccurate, and more importantly, unsupported by the facts.”
Rivera, who has previously shared screen time with the real estate mogul in NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” confessed that he couldn’t believe Trump’s comments when he announced his candidacy last year.
“I heard him say this, and I thought ‘He doesn’t believe that. I know he doesn’t believe that,” the journalist said. “I just knew that that wasn’t the guy I knew.”
Rivera disclosed that he has previously reached out to his to offer him a word of advice on a better way to tackle these subjects. However, Mr. Trump has learned that his hateful comments and insults have a lot to do with his increasing popularity.
“Just released that international gangs are all over our cities. This will end when I am President,” Trump wrote on Twitter. He later reinforced his proposal on building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border that Mexico will pay for by adding, “We need to secure our borders ASAP. No games, we must be smart, tough and vigilant. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN & MAKE AMERICA STRONG AGAIN!”
Regarding the wall, Rivera mentioned: “If America really wants a wall that bad, build the 100-foot wall, and the Mexicans will get a 101-foot ladder.” We can definitely say he’s got a very good point there.
