"I shot George Zimmerman, call 911. I don't have a phone," a unidentified man reportedly shouted to bystander Kenneth Cornell after allegedly sending a bullet through George Zimmerman’s car window, narrowly missing his head. The shooting reportedly followed a dispute between the two men who were both in their cars in the suburb of Lake Mary, Florida. George Zimmerman, who who was acquitted in 2012 after shooting unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, did not fire back at the assailant, according Lake Mary Chief Steve Bracknell .
"I don't know exactly what precipitated it, but another motorist pulled up alongside him and fired a shot at him," Zimmerman's attorney Don West told Fox News. "I believe that the window of the vehicle was broken. As I understand it he was shot through the passenger window and the bullet narrowly missed his head and lodged the roof."
The shot, reportedly fired through Zimmerman’s passenger window, caused facial injuries from glass but he walked away from the incident unharmed. Witnesses told CNN that Zimmerman waived a gun at the other motorist but did not fire his weapon. Police allegedly did not identify the motorist, but said that he was cooperating with authorities.
Zimmerman caused a national uproar when he shot teenaged Trayvon Martin teenager after following him while acting as a neighborhood watchmen. Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, was accused of racially profiling Martin, who was black. He has had numerous run-ins with the law since his 2013 acquittal in the Martin shooting case. including three alleged instances of domestic violence including aggravated battery and threats with a firearm. Charges in those cases were either dropped by accusers or dismissed by the courts.
