Genesis Rodriguez, Doña Bárbara
Genesis Rodriguez and Edith Gonzalez in a scene from "Doña Bárbara." Telemundo

Genesis Rodriguez was distraught over Telemundo's Upfront announcements this week, contrary to many telenovela lovers. Everyone was excited that Lucero was finally back in a new melodrama, that there would be a series based on Celia Cruz's life, that Ludwika Paleta had jumped ship to Telemundo and that "El Señor De Los Cielos" would be back for a fourth season. What upset Rodriguez was the project that Aracely Arámbula would star in, a remake of "Doña Bárbara." Genesis was part of the cast of the Telemundo production that starred Edith Gonzalez and Christian Meier. To be clear, she was not upset that Arámbula was cast as the lead character, but the fact that they would be remaking this series so soon.

"I can't believe that they are remaking 'Doña Bárbara' so soon," she tweeted. "All the effort, hard working hours, sweat, love from all the crew... so they could erase it all that fast and easy? Another reason why I will stay doing what I'm doing." Was this last part a dig to telenovelas because she's now making films in Hollywood? Even the latter does remakes sweetie! Just look at how many Spider-Man's, Superman's and Batman's we've had in this century.

Genesis' biggest upset was that "Doña Bárbara" was produced in Colombia in 2008 and it's been less than 10 years since the telenovela was made. That's fair on her part, but that "Doña Bárbara" will live on, it doesn't get erased. We don't even know if this new version will be a hit or not. So don't sweat it little "pumita," we will always remember this production. Why? Because we will remember how you hooked up with Christian Meier and began your romance here. You made a lovely couple. We will also remember the alleged drama behind-the-scenes you had with Edith Gonzalez. Your work was appreciated Genesis. Take a look at a preview of the new version with Aracely Arámbula here, maybe you might like it!
