In King’s Landing
Following the mass death of Northerners at the Red Wedding, The Lannisters are feeling very comfortable in the Iron Throne, but they may have gotten too comfortable. The only Lannister that is not reveling in the blood of the Starks is Tyrion, for two major reasons. The clever imp fears the repercussions against their family and crown due to his father’s treacherous plan with the Frey’s. The Frey’s are even worse for wear, with the people of the Seven Kingdoms viewing their house as cursed after they broke the sacred guest law of bread and salt. In addition the North rallying behind the wrongs of the Red Wedding, Tyrion is also attempting to salvage his relationship with his new wife Sansa, who has lost her family at the hands of her new in-laws. Sansa is devastated by the death of her brother and mother, and being married to Tyrion, and thus the enemy is really only salt in the wound at this point. Speaking of man and wife, a new pair of newlyweds will soon be ruling Westeros, Joffrey and Margaery’s wedding ceremony is imminent. Another pair arriving back at court is the odd couple of Brienne and Jamie, but his former lover and twin sister Cersei is certainly not receiving her now one-handed brother with open arms.
In Dragonstone
The last time we saw the defeated Stannis, he had just received a threatening message from Davos regarding the supernatural threat of the White Walkers and the real life threat of the amassing number of Wildlings following Mance Rayder, the King Beyond The Wall. Melisandre, his most trusted advisor and red priestess prophesized that the threat and projected destruction of the White Walkers and Mance Rayder’s army will be significantly more detrimental to the realm that that of the War of the Five Kings. Stannis who is itching to regain his place of power following the embarrassing defeat at the Battle of the Black Water will most likely answer the call of the Night’s Watch and head towards the Wall to truly defend the relam.
The Wall
Speaking of The Wall, Jon snow has just made it back to the Night’s Watch after betraying Ygritte and the Wildlings and making his true alliance known. It was a bit of a cliff hanger if Jon would survive the multiple arrow wounds delivered lovingly by Ygritte as he fled from her, but the season 4 promo video revealed that not only had Jon survived, he is fully recovered. However like Jon, the Wildlings are back at full strength and are ready to turn their attentions and weapons on the men of the Night’s Watch, in their attempt to move South away from the White Walkers, they plan on taking Castle Black.
Beyond the Wall
As for the other group navigate the rugged terrain beyond the Wall, Bran, Hodor, Meera and Jojen are well into their journey to the three-eyed raven. But even though the heir of Winterfell is out of the reach of his enemies, that doesn't mean he is safe in the true North. Like the Wildlings, this group will have some dangerous run-ins and will have to fend for themselves in the unforgiving elements. Bran’s direwolf Summer is still staying close to the group, the relationship between the beast and his owner will grow and significantly strengthen.
In Essos
Dany continues her march while her three dragons continue to grow. After landing in Merreen, another slave city, her growing number of devoted followers is larger than ever. Daario Naharis who is still very much in the favor of the young Queen, will stay with her for season 4, however her new budding romance will only complicate her relationship with Jorah Mormont.
On the Kingsroad
The other Stark is still in the company of her enemies, Arya was last on the road with the Hound in season 3 and seems to still be traveling in the season 4 promo vides. However, after his failed trade off with in The Twins, the Hound seems to have a captive with nowhere to go. If he returns to King’s Landing, the Lannisters will have his head, and if he goes to the Northerners they will have his head for his past loyalty to the Lannisters.
