Spring may have just arrived, but “winter is coming” for “Game of Thrones” fans. With the Season 4 premiere dates slowly but steadily approaching, it’s time to discover what action will unfold. The premiere episode “Two Swords” is set to reacquaint fans with the world of Westeros and its scheming inhabitants. Following the April 6th premiere, fans are eager to finally see the forthcoming marriage between King of Seven Kingdoms, Joffrey Baratheon and his son to be Queen, Margarey Tyrell, which is rumored to take place in episode 2. Fans are anticipating the wedding ceremony, which has been dubbed the “Purple Wedding” by readers of George R.R. Martin’s epic book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” mainly due to the cleverly crafted episode title -- “The Lion and the Rose.”
Warning spoilers for Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” ahead. Do not read any further if you do not want to know what will happen in the third episode of the forthcoming season.
As for episode 3, “Breaker of Chains,” the title is a direct reference to Daenerys Targaryen, who will be encountering the slave city of Meereen in Season 4. Fans have watched in the past seasons as Dany has seamlessly conquered slave cities, through the force of her now freed Unsullied army, and of course her three dragons. But even more is set to occur in episode 3, than just Dany growing an even larger following. The synopsis for “Breaker of Chains” reveals, “Tyrion ponders his options. Tywin extends an olive branch. Sam realizes Castle Black isn’t safe, and Jon proposes a bold plan. The Hound teaches Arya the way things are. Dany chooses her champion.”
The youngest of the Lannister’s is known to enjoy three things in life, wine, prostitutes, and deep thinking. However, considering the Season 4 promos, that depict Tyrion locked away seeking actual justice, we are assuming his pondering in the “Breaker of Chains” is not a pleasant contemplation, instead we are assuming his decision means either life or death. As for Tywin, who rarely concedes unless there is some gold at the end of it, he must be feeling either very threatened or very uncomfortable. Actually we are thinking both, in the Season 4 promo video a new face in Westeros beckons Tyrion to fetch Tywin, and sinisterly reminds him that “Lannisters aren’t the only ones that pay their debts.” As for the recipient of Tywin’s olive branch, something tells us that the Red Viper is not going to be a gracious guest and accept. Episode 3 will also most likely serve as the starting point for growing tensions between Jon and the wildings. The episode 3 synopsis reads, “Sam realizes Castle Black isn’t safe, and Jon proposes a bold plan.” Castle Black has been under armed and under manned for three seasons, and now it seems that the wildlings threat is real. With no Commander, little supplies and winter coming, the Night’s Watch may need to heed Jon’s bold plan in order to survive and protect the realm. As for another Stark, the Hound and Arya are still traveling together, but they no longer have a destination. In regards to the synopsis, unfortunately this pair may grow closer despite having wronged each other in the past.
