Elyes Gabel of "Scorpion" fame was held for allegedly assaulting and choking his girlfriend. The actor has denied the allegations.
The 38-year-old was arrested in New York on May 14, a representative for the NYPD told PEOPLE. The "Game of Thrones" actor was charged with five misdemeanors and one violation, including one count of assault with intent to cause physical injury.
He is facing more criminal charges like attempted assault with intent to cause physical injury, aggravated harassment, recklessly causing physical injury to another person, criminal obstruction of breathing and harassment in the second degree.
According to the misdemeanor complaint obtained by E! News, Gabel "recklessly" injured and choked his girlfriend. She reportedly told the police that Gabel used both of his hands to "apply pressure" to her neck, "forcefully squeezing it," which allegedly caused "redness and substantial pain." She added that Gabel spat in her face and called her a "c**t" and "f**king b**ch," allegedly saying, "I'm going to punch your f**king face in."
According to the officer's report in the complaint, she also accused him of shoving her that made her fall on the couch. The actor allegedly grabbed her phone from her hand and threw it on the ground. As a result of which, the phone cracked.
The complaint read, "The defendant, with the intent to harass, annoy, threaten and alarm another person, struck, shoved, kicked and otherwise subjected another person to physical contact thereby causing physical injury to such person and to a family and household member of such person."
Gabel's attorney, Stacey Richman, said in a statement, "Elyes vehemently denies these allegations. While the claims are sensationalistic, they are not accurate." "Elyes would never conduct himself in the manner alleged. Nevertheless he will not disparage the complainant and looks forward to the facts emerging through the legal process," added Richman.
Gabel was released without bail, said the Manhattan District Attorney's office. A temporary order of protection was also issued. He will face court on July 7.
Though the girlfriend's name hasn't been revealed, he was dating his "Scorpion" co-star Katharine McPhee for about two years. They reportedly parted ways in 2016.
On the work front, he is currently tied up with the Apple TV+ series "Suspicion."
