Star of "Y Tu Mamá También" and the upcoming film "Rosewater" Gael García Bernal is reportedly separating from his wife, Dolores Fonzi, after nearly five years of marriage. Multiple reports have confirmed that the two are indeed split but remain friends. The couple met in 2001 on the set of "Vidas Privadas" but didn't start dating until 2008 and married in 2009.
According to Huffington Post Bernal's mother confirmed the news to People Espanol, telling the magazine Bernal and Fonzi "remain great friends" despite their separation. She further revealed the two will now focus on caring and dividing time for their children, Lázaro and Libertad.
E! News website reports that sources close to the outlet revealed that Tuesday Bernal, who attended the 2014 Telluride Film Festival this past weekend, was telling people that he and Fonzi had indeed separated and that he was splitting his time between his home in Mexico and Argentina where his children are.
Meanwhile Bernal will star in the upcoming film "Rosewater" based on the true events surrounding Maziar Behari, a London-based journalist who was imprisoned for 100 days in Iran and subjected to terrible interrogations. The film marks "The Daily Show's" Jon Stewart's directorial debut.
