One driver has sparked the ire of a local farmer after blocking his gate by parking his car on the driveway on Saturday at Brockersgill Farm, Newbiggin, Co Durham. According to The Sun, the farmer hauled the Vauxhall Corsa with a forklift as he drove it down towards the main road.
The video has gone viral on social media where footage of the incident shows the forklift hauling the car, leaving it with dents and broken glass debris. The shirtless driver tried stopping the industrial truck by kicking it on the wheels to no effect.
When the truck reversed and swung its forks, this sent the driver knocking on the ground. The Durham cops are currently investigating the scene with counterclaims of “assault and criminal damage.”
The Sun reached out to the farmer, but he refused to comment about the incident. “Leave my property,” he said.
Residents and other farmers, though, had enough as a result of the influx of tourists, according to a woman relative. “Before the incident that was caught on camera there was an assault on someone from the farm but of course that was not filmed,” she said.
“These people parked their car on the drive to the farm and were asked numerous times, very politely, to move,” she added. “The outcome was what happened and what everyone has now seen but there was a lot before that,” she continued.
According to her, the locals are tire of youngsters coming into the area in cars. Right before the incident, there were cars being raced along the road “which was extremely dangerous.”
However, a friend of the driver said that he'd only been around for a brief time after pulling over after a small collision.
“He said there was a bit of a bump before that and he moved the car out of the way,” the friend said. “Within two minutes the farmer has come over and gone crazy.”
Although no arrests have been made, police were summoned to the site and are now investigating the event.
After restrictions in the UK are eased, a lot of day-trippers flocked to the countryside near Barnard Castle to get a wind of the summer heat. However, this left farmers and locals furious for having parked cars outside their gates.
