Funeral Home Director Accused of Stashing Human Remains at His House, Leaving Woman's Body in Hearse for Over a Year Will Plead to Corpse Abuse

A Denver funeral director is expected to plead guilty to corpse abuse Friday following the discovery of cremated human remains hoarded throughout his home and a woman's body decaying in a hearse, according to a report.

Miles Harford, 34-year-old funeral home owner, is scheduled to appear in court and enter a plea in response to charges of forgery, theft, and abuse of a corpse, AP News reported.

The body of 63-year old Christina Rosales, who died of Alzheimer's, was found hidden beneath blankets in a hearse on Harford's residence, from which he was being evicted in February. Authorities say the body was left in the hearse for over a year.

During a search of the rental home, authorities also recovered the cremated remains of 35 people in locations that included the hearse and a crawlspace.

In the last decade, Colorado funeral homes have faced a number of prosecutions for troubling incidents that include selling body parts, leave hundreds of bodies to rot, and sending fake ashes.

Legislative efforts to reform Colorado's historically lax funeral home regulations are underway, with two new laws aimed at strengthening oversight of the industry signed by Gov. Jared Polis earlier this year.
