Even when a person gets vaccinated, there is no assurance that they are free from contracting the dreaded coronavirus. Hence, most are advised to continue following the usual COVID-19 protocols even after getting the jab.

A reason for this is the case of a 23-year-old Indian man who was residing in Singapore. Reportedly a worker at a marine industry, the man was staying at a dormitory in the south of the country and was fully vaccinated but rested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. The worker had no previous symptoms of the virus and took two doses of the coronavirus jab on Jan. 25 and Feb. 17.

“This case is a reminder that it is possible for vaccinated individuals to get infected,” the health ministry said. “But the vaccine is effective in preventing symptomatic disease for the vast majority of those vaccinated.”

Aside from this, the man from India reportedly also had a positive serology test. This suggests that he could have produced antibodies after he got the vaccines.

The development added to the growing number of cases in Singapore. As of Sunday, the tally in the country rose to 60,653. 60,335 individuals have recovered from the infection.

In related news, a hospital employee who recently got vaccinate also tested positive for COVID-19. The worker took the test after coming into contact with an infected person. The unnamed individual took two doses of the vaccine developed by Pfizer Inc on March 13 and April 3.

Finally, India is now the second-most infected country after reporting 168,912 coronavirus infections. This means that the country now has over 13.53 million cases, overtaking Brazil which had 13.45 million COVID-19 cases. The United States still leads globally with 31.2 million cases.

As a result, New Delhi has banned the export of remdesivir with infections soaring to a new daily high. Hospitals are also struggling with the increasing demand for the coronavirus treatment drug with the health ministry admitting that there has been a surge in spikes for the antiviral drug.

“There is a potential of further increase in this demand in the coming days,” the health ministry stated.
