Fox Sports anchor Emily Austen is another example of the ignorance and the lack of tolerance that still exists in the country.
A few days ago, the 27-year-old reporter made the headlines after a Facebook Live video of “Barstool Sports” went viral. In the clip, Austen is seen making racists comments about Mexicans and other ethnicities.
“With the whole girl…I didn’t even know Mexicans were that smart,” the blonde entertainer said trying to be funny.
“That’s Trump, Trump Jr. right there!” one of the guys in the video mentioned.
Austen tried to excuse herself after realizing she had just made a huge mistake, unfortunately, she only made things worse.
“I know that’s f*ed up! I didn’t mean it like that, but you see that…I mean, you guys know that the Chinese guys are always the smartest guys in math class,” she added stereotyping Chinese people.
On June 12, Austen turned to Twitter to issue a public apology addressed to everyone she offended with her comments.
“I made a terrible mistake,” she wrote. “I was in an environment where I was trying to be funny and make a joke, and my comments were insensitive. You can trust this was absolutely not my intention.”
She continued, “Anyone who knows me knows that this is not how I truly feel. I will continue to work hard to prove myself and make things right. I know I have some growing to do, and I sincerely apologize. Something like this will never happen again.”
On June 13, Fox Sports announced that Austen was being removed from all future broadcasts.
“We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with Fox Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments,” Fox Sports Florida General Manager Steve Tello said in a statement. “She was not speaking on behalf of Fox Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video.”
Tello added, “Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming Fox Sports Florida or Fox Sports Sun broadcasts.”
