An Indian man was reportedly horrifically beheaded by a four-member gang in public view before his severed head was left in front of a church in Erumaiyur, Tamil Nadu, India on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

The victim, identified as G Vetrivel, 21, was a college student in a nearby private university and a resident of Erumaiyur village near Manimangalam in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu.

Vetrivel was allegedly killed and beheaded by a four-member gang while he was traveling back to his house on a two-wheeler after visiting his friend on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Following the brutal murder, the gang left his severed head in front of a church at Erumaiyur, took off with the headless body, and dumped the rest of the remains several kilometers away from the murder spot, the New Indian Express reported.

Vetrivel was allegedly a part of the gang of men that murdered a college student named Abhishek on Oct. 30 last year while he was coming out of a church in Erumaiyur after attending a wedding.

“It was the same church in front of which Vetrivel’s head was placed on Tuesday night. At around 10.30 pm, Vetrivel was nearing his house on a two-wheeler after visiting his friend when a four-member gang blocked his way and hacked him to death in public view,” a police officer said.

Vetrivel's mutilated headless body was later found dumped along the Dharkast Road near the Stone Quarry Road several kilometers away from the murder spot the following day, on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The investigators identified Vetrivel as the victim after they recovered the rest of his mangled body. Initially, the officers believed that the victim was another man named Sachin who was also part of the gang that murdered Abhishek.

Abhishek was reportedly murdered by Vetrivel and his gang as revenge because his brother had attempted to murder a close friend of Vetrivel, according to local police officials.

“Recently Abhishek’s brother came out on bail and we suspect he must have murdered Sachin to avenge the murder of his brother. We have launched a hunt for Abhishek’s brother,” said the police.

A case has been registered by the Somamangalam police and they have launched a manhunt to nab the suspects involved in the gruesome murder.
