Stephanie Grisham, Donald Trump's press secretary during the last part of his administration, heavily criticized her former boss during the Democratic National Convention, offering a glimpse of his behavior behind closed doors.

Grisham said she wasn't "just a Trump supporter," but a "true believer" and "one of his closest advisers." However, the situation changed on the January 6 assault on the Capitol, with Trump's behavior on that day leading her to resign.

Grisham was applauded by attendants when recalling she was the first senior staffer to resign that day and recalled how Melania Trump rejected her request to tweet that there was "no place for lawlessness or violence" as supporters sought to overturn the 2020 elections.

She went on to define Trump as someone with "no empathy, no morals and no fidelity to the truth." "He used to tell me: 'It doesn't matter what you say, Stephanie, say it enough and people will believe you.'"

Moreover, she described his dismissive opinion of his supporters, saying he describes him as "basement dwellers." And ended her address with an endorsement of Kamala Harris: "I love my country more than my party. Kamala Harris tells the truth. She respects the American people and she has my vote."

Democrats are featuring several Republicans at the lectern during the DNC, highlighting party members reluctant to support the former president. Tuesday's program was hosted by Ana Navarro, a Republican political strategist and commentator for several networks including CNN and NBC, where she co-hosts for "The View" part time.

Despite her conservative leanings, she is also a fierce Trump critic, recently posting a viral video to her Instagram titled "Things I Trust More than Donald Trump." Despite her previous roles supporting the GOP, she has previously revealed she voted for a Democrat for the first time when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ran against Trump in 2016.

The Harris campaign is leading a broader effort to gain support from Republicans who oppose Trump, launching an initiative called "Republicans for Harris" earlier this month. The official launch of the program featured endorsements from key Republicans including former Trump White House officials Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye.

Another Republican who spoke on Tuesday was Kyle Sweetser, an Alabama citizen who said voted for Trump three times but was affected by his tariffs policy. Also set to speak during the DNC are Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican lawmaker and vocal critic of Trump, John Giles, the mayor of Mesa, Arizona, and Geoff Duncan, the former lieutenant governor of Georgia.
