According to Portage Police Department - Wisconsin, a former Portage High School teacher accused of having intercourse with a student was charged with sexual misconduct after court documents found the teacher sleeping with the teenager twice.
Abby M. Dibbs, 35, of Cross Plains, was detained after the Portage Community School District administration notified authorities.
Police interviewed Dibbs on May 26 regarding her contact with a 17-year-old male student at the high school.
According to the complaint, Dibbs confessed that the student came to her house the weekend prior on Friday and Saturday, and they had intercourse twice. She also said that they talked about how they felt about each other how there were "lines they couldn't cross" but did.
Meanwhile, the student then proceeded to inform the cops that he was in love with Dibbs. He also expressed his ire with the person who "snitched" on him, as well as his mother, who informed cops that the person made the right decision by disclosing the affair since it was unethical.
On Friday, a $3,500 cash bond was posted, and Dibbs was warned not to contact the student or be on school grounds.
Dibbs faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in jail and a fine of $20,000 if convicted of both charges.
On July 26, there will be a pre-trial conference for the case.
The Portage School District issued a statement after Dibb's arrest and said it was cooperating with the police.
“This teacher is no longer employed by the Portage Community School District and will not be returning to the classroom. Upon learning of this matter, the District responded immediately and contacted law enforcement. The District will not be commenting further to ensure that there is no disruption to the investigation by law enforcement and to protect the privacy of others involved,” according to the statement.
"We feel confident that the high school and all district buildings are safe and secure for all students and staff. We appreciate the efforts of our law enforcement in addressing this matter. District officials will continue to monitor our schools to ensure a safe environment."
