A former Proud Boys leader pardoned by President Donald Trump for his role in the Capitol riots announced that he now plans to run for office.
"Last time I was on, I told you that I was gonna take some time, and I was going to really think about what I was going to do," Enrique Tarrio told Newsmax host Greg Kelly.
"I think my future is in politics. I think I'm gonna take a serious look at running for office at some point in 2026 or 2028, and I believe that there is a path for that because it is my passion," he continued.
Tarrio, 42, said that he has yet to decide what kind of office he would campaign for, whether that would be federal, state or local, and noted that "a lot of things that need to be aligned for that to happen."
"Two weeks ago, I was in prison and just last night I was in Mar-a-Lago at the president's house," Tarrio told Kelly, smiling.
Kelly responded, "That is so amazing. From prison to Mar-a-Lago, the most exclusive house in the world, possibly more exclusive than the White House."
The former Proud Boys leader was included in Trump's presidential pardon, which was extended to all individuals convicted of or facing charges in connection to the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.
In September 2023, Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty of seditious conspiracy due to his role in planning the riots, despite not being physically in attendance that day. He received the longest sentence of any convicted rioter.
Around 1,500 people were affected by the pardons, including hundreds who had been accused of assaulting or resisting law enforcement.
