Former New England Patriots safety and a three-time Super Bowl winner, Patrick Chung has been charged with assaulting a woman, and battery after the incident that happened Monday.
Chung, 34, was also charged with vandalizing property. He was released Tuesday without bail, the Patriot Ledger reported. Chung appeared in Quincy District Court for his arraignment accompanied by his fiancée and parents. According to the police report, Chung allegedly pushed, slapped and broke the accuser's phone outside her home in Milton.
"Patrick's behavior has been erratic for a very long time," the woman said. According to the police officers, the woman was crying and had wet marks on her back when they arrived, supporting her statement that Chung pushed her to the ground.
Chung did not testify against the allegations. He appeared to shake his head in a "no" from time to time. His fiancée spoke on his behalf, accusing the woman of attacking and hitting Chung first after he tried to leave her house.
Sandy Pesiridis, Chung's attorney, is trying to prove her client's innocence and has pointed out that the matter was "much better suited for Probate and Family Court."
Judge Neil Hourihan approved both abuse prevention and no-contact orders directing Chung to stay away from the woman and her home for the following year. The judge declined the prosecutors' request that Chung wears GPS to monitor and ensure compliance with the orders. The next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2022.
Chung was a former football safety for the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. He has no previous domestic assault charges. Chung had a cocaine possession charge in New Hampshire in January 2020. He underwent periodic drug testing and 40 hours of community service.
The former NFL player currently resides in Norton, Massachusetts after retiring from football. He signed a two-year extension with the Patriots ahead of the 2020 season but chose not to participate due to the coronavirus pandemic. He retired in March 2021.
