A former child actor best known for his work in the comedy movie “Our Idiot Brother” was reportedly found dead at the age of 19 in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Aug. 28, just three days after he was reported missing.
Matthew Mindler, a 19-year-old Millersville University freshman, was last seen on Tuesday, Aug. 24, leaving his residence hall. He would be found dead three days later on Saturday, Aug 28, in Manor Township in Lancaster County, about 90 miles from Philadelphia, NBC News reported.
Mindler was last spotted leaving his dorm room at West Villages and walking towards a parking lot area just after 8 p.m on Tuesday, Aug. 24. Investigators obtained CCTV surveillance footage from inside the residence hall and found that Mindler was reportedly wearing a school sweatshirt, black jeans, sneakers, and a book bag when he disappeared. Mindler reportedly attended classes on Monday and Tuesday but did not return to campus on Wednesday.
A missing adult report was filed with the National Crime Information Center on Thursday after Mindler’s family said that he “did not return to his room or return phone calls from his family.” Mindler also failed to show up to his classes from Wednesday onwards, Page Six reported.
Millersville University President Daniel A. Wubah shared news of Mindler's death through social media on Saturday.
“It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University. Our thoughts of comfort and peace are with his friends and family during this difficult time,” he said.
Wubah added that the university police along with law enforcement agencies had been searching for Mindler after he was reported missing. After days of extensive searching, they found his body in Manor Township near the college campus on Saturday, according to New York Daily News.
Investigators did not disclose the cause of the teenager's death or whether foul play is suspected. The county forensic center will conduct further investigation into his death.
Mindler co-starred with Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and Zooey Deschanel in the 2011 movie “My Idiot Brother” and also acted in CBS’s “As the World Turns.” Mindler, who hadn’t acted since 2016, played his last role as a character named Peter in the 2016 TV movie, “Chad: An American Boy.”
