LOS ANGELES – If you’re a fan of boxing than you will most likely be watching the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao mega fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. However, with rumors swirling that there will be either no tickets available to the general public, or less than 1,000 estimated to cost around $25,000 a piece, it may be difficult to see the two fighters in person…but not impossible.
Mayweather and Pacquiao will come face-to-face on Wednesday March 11th, for a press conference that will officially kick off the promotion for the most anticipated fight in boxing history. The two world welterweight title holders will meet at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles for the final time before the fight weekend on May 1st.
As of now, the press conference is not open to the public, but once the organizers of the fight announce the location, there will sure to be thousands in attendance who will try and catch a glimpse of boxing’s biggest stars. The mega fight which is nearly six years in the making was announced by “Money” Mayweather himself on his Instagram account when he posted a photo of the contract signed by both fighters.
Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 Kos), comes into the fight a heavy underdog against Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOS). Pacquiao arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday, and plans to continue his training in Hollywood with trainer Freddie Roach for the next couple months. Mayweather, who lives in Las Vegas, has been quietly training at his own personal gym for the past few weeks.
In a superb piece by ESPN’s Dan Rafael, the making of the mega fight came together thanks to the help of CBS President and CEO, Les Moonves. Rafael writes in step-by-step detail how Moonves brought both parties together, squashed past grudges and finally unified two fighters with larger-than-life egos. The beginning of the story starts with a confident restaurant waiter and an open-minded Moonves. It’s a must read.
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will meet in the ring on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where both fighters will put their welterweight world titles on the line. The Pay-per-view fight is set to air in a joint broadcast on both HBO and Showtime and is expected to cost between $89.99 and $99.99.
