“Flowers in the Attic” is the V.C. Andrews novel that were banned from reading as kids, however now Lifetime is taking the cult classic into the 21st century with a brand new Lifetime Original Movie telling the controversial story of Cathy, Chris, Cory and Carrie. And while you may be assuming that this special TV event will simply be a remake of the haunting 1987 film, you’re wrong because it’s even more authentic and raw, promising audiences to be even more graphic than the first film adaption. The special movie presentation premieres on Jan. 18 with Kiernan Shipka of “Mad Men” playing the role of everyone’s beloved Cathy, Heather Graham will portray Corinne, the perfect mother turned antagonist, whom the children (especially Cathy) have a dark relationship with. In addition to the mother-daughter tension in this series, Cathy’s relationship with her siblings grow, mainly with her brother Chris, who is played by Mason Dye. In addition to the Dollanganger family, fans will meet Olivia Foxworth, played by the amazing and Emmy award winning actress Ellen Burstyn, who know exactly how to approach the evil grandmother role.
“Flowers in the Attic” is a truly gripping, yet sometimes truly disturbing tale. The movie recounts the childhoods of the Dollanganger family, who before their father died in a tragic car accident, live a picturesque life. So perfect, in fact, there is a neighborhood joke that the Dollgangers are the “Dresden Dolls” of the community, with shining golden hair, and bright blue eyes. Their idyllic life filled with sunshine quickly turns into an unimaginable nightmare, when there grieving mother Corrine brings her four children to live with her estranged, yet wealthy, parents. However, this is not a cheery visit to grandmother’s house, upon arrival Cathy and Chris begin to realize there is several serious implications to their father’s death. One of them being they must now live locked in an attic, where they will stay for over two years.
Luckily for viewers Lifetime is airing “Flowers in the Attic” multiple times on TV.
