A high school student in Florida was arrested after the gun inside their backpack went off during a bus ride home on Tuesday.

West Feliciana Parish Schools officials revealed in a message to parents obtained by WAFB 9 that the bus driver and students on the bus heard a loud noise they initially misinterpreted as a firecracker.

When they investigated, they found it was actually a gun that accidentally went off in one of the student's backpacks. Fortunately, no one was injured.

According to reporting by WAFB 9, police were immediately notified and arrested the armed student. The student will be expelled, pending due process, since the school has a "zero-tolerance policy for weapons."

Administrators also encouraged parents to speak with their children "about the dangers of bringing a weapon on campus."
