The CW has officially announced that its DC superhero shows will see a new season, with "Arrow" coming back for a fifth season and "The Flash" with a third season. The network also revealed they will now be the home to the previous CBS series "Supergirl." In celebration of the news, check out these five exciting details you must know about the third season of "The Flash" below.

1. Zack Stentz has joined up as a consulting producer. Stentz, currently garnering acclaim for the recent episode he wrote, the Kevin Smith directed "The Runaway Dinosaur" episode. Stentz is a live action superhero veteran, having worked on the screenplays for "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor." He is also credited on the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie.

2. Wentworth Miller will not stick with "Legends of Tomorrow" as a season two regular, but rather split time between the show and "The Flash Season 3" as a Warner Bros. TV regular. Executive producer Greg Berlanti said of the split: "We always knew that he wouldn’t be a permanent member of The Waverider. We also knew we loved him on the show and all the shows, Flash as well … [Miller] won’t be part of the team of Legends on board of The Waverider next year, he will have a very active role on the show."

Miller will reprise his role as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold.

3. It's safe to assume Grant Gustin will return as Barry Allen aka The Flash. We will also see the return of Carlos Valdes as tech genius Cisco, Danielle Panabaker as science master Caitlin, Candice Patton as the news-hunting Iris and Jesse L. Martin as the dutiful father Joe. There is also a good chance that John Wesley Shipp will return as Henry Allen.

4. Collider caught up with Kreisberg and "The Flash" actor Tom Cavanagh after a screening of "Back to Normal," and the two talked not only about what is to come for the remainder of season two, but also season three as well. Kreisberg revealed we will learn more about Caitlin's background in the third season.

"It gave us an opportunity to deepen both characters," Kreisberg said. "We haven’t met Caitlin’s mother yet. We got a little talk between the two women, which will probably play out in Season 3."

5. As for the release date for the third season of "The Flash," we know the series will premiere in early October. We do not have an exact date yet but when that changes we'll update this article.
