Charlie Hunnam was finally named for the role of Christian Grey in the "Fifty Shades Of Grey" film adaption after months and months of speculation over who would be cast. And now, Deadline breaks the news that the "Sons Of Anarchy" actor has dropped the role he just got! He was all set last month to play one of the lead roles in the movie based on EL James' S&M trilogy book series. But now, in an unexpected turn of events, Universal is on the hunt to find another actor for the role. So what happened? Little Information is out just yet.
Universal issued the following statement: "The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey." It appears there were no hard feelings as EL James tweeted, "I wish Charile all the best." However, Deadline is speculating that it's possible the actor was having second thoughts about the amount of nudity that is likely to be filmed in the "Fifty Shades Of Grey" movie. Dakota Johnson landed that other lead role as Anastasia Steele, which was also announced Sept. 2.
Now, that leaves a big role open! Fans have wanted many people to play this role including "The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder, Garrett Hedlund from the movie "Country Strong" and Matt Bomer from USA Network's "White Collar." Extreme superfan websites called for either Robert Pattinson or Ryan Gosling. Change.org got over 80,000 signatures to have Universal drop both Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson for other stars to be cast. Alexis Bledel was a fan favorite for the role of Anastasia Steele. "Fifty Shades Of Grey" is scheduled to hit theaters is North America Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, so the producers better to get work to find their lead male role. Who would you like to see play Christian Grey? Let us know!
