Jamie Dornan has been tapped to play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the bestseller "Fifty Shades Of Grey." The Northern Irish actor will be replacing Charlie Hunnam, according to Variety, after the "Sons of Anarchy" actor dropped out. The 31-year-old actor is best known for his work on "Once Upon a Time" where he plays Sheriff Graham Humbert, "The Huntsman." He has also played a serial killer in the crime drama "The Fall" and was on Sofia Coppola's "Maria Antoinette." Dornan married singer-songwriter Amelia Warner earlier this year and in June 2013 the couple confirmed that they are expecting their first child. He had previously dated actress Keira Knightley, whom he met on the set of an Asprey photoshoot in 2003.
Knightley was who introduced the thespian to her agent at PFD and things kicked off from their. For Dornan this heavily talked about film is an incredible opportunity to become a household name. The project based on the E.L. James trilogy is also set to star Dakota Johnson as Anastaria Steele and Jennifer Ehle as Ana's mother, Carla May Wilks. Production for the motion picture was halted when the star dropped out and Universal issues the following statement: "The filmmakers of 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
Although many names were thrown around in Hollywood as replacements, the trade publication reported that Universal and Focus only tested Dornan and Billy Magnussen for the role. Last friday both actors tested with Johnson and although the studio considered bringing in more actors, sources confirm that no one else was brought in. Producers will have to quickly cast the remaining characters like Anastasia's roommate Kate and make the deadline for an August 1, 2014 release date.
