As the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar kicks off on Nov. 20, the government, in collaboration with transport companies in the country, are ensuring that the millions of fans expected to come to the event will be able to go about the country with an ease that will allow them to focus on enjoying the games.
As 1.2 million people are expected to come to the country to attend the World Cup, the Qatari government will have 4,000 public transportation buses to ferry fans to and from events, with 3,000 of those buses being newly-purchased and 700 of them being battery-powered.
Transportation options in the country that a football fan in Qatar could use includes the Doha Metro line, multiple cab services, and other private transportation services like Uber and Careem that you can download ahead of going to the World Cup, GOAL reported.
You can find a detailed timetable of when the buses will come and go in specific stops like the Souq Waqif metro station and Al Bidda Park. The A-Ring Road in Qatar will also reportedly be dedicated to authorized buses and taxis so that football fans can easily travel to and from the games without any hassle.
Meanwhile, many vehicles in the country with a general transport plate or black private transport plate will reportedly be diverted from central Doha during the games, with only public transport vehicles and emergency services as well as people with only one vehicle being allowed in the area during the World Cup.
For anyone planning on entering the country from now to Jan. 23, the government requires getting a Hayya card, which would allow you to enter the country multiple times during the 90-day period of its validity. And for football fans, the transportation in the buses and metro lines will be free if you have a Hayya card.
The expected size of the people going to the World Cup is expected to be massive, and the Qatari government has prepared to ensure that the logistical needs of the event will be addressed fully.
