The 2014 FIFA World Cup will kick off on Thursday, June 12 in Brazil and the month-long international sporting event will end on Sunday, July 13. Brazil will be the hosting nation for the first time since 1950, featuring 32 teams and 64 matches played at 12 stadiums in 12 different cities -- Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.
The opening game on Thursday will feature Brazil playing Croatia at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo. While only time will tell which team will be victorious, a prediction has been made from an unlikely source: a loggerhead turtle. Similar to Germany's Paul the Octopus -- who gave animal oracle predictions in the 2010 World Cup -- the 25-year-old male sea turtle named Cabeção has predicted that Brazil will be victorious in the opening game.
Curious about the procedure? The turtle was given the option of eating a fish from a Brazilian flag or a fish hung from a Croatian flag at the Praia do Forte turtle sanctuary north of Salvador. The turtle first attempted to eat the fish that was hanging from a football, which represents a draw match, but ultimately chose the food from the Brazilian flag, indicating that the South American will win.
