EA Sports revealed that it will be bringing a new level of realistic gameplay to the upcoming "FIFA 15" title. One of the biggest changes in gameplay will be the goalkeeper position. It will not look, move and think like their real world counterparts with brand new AI that allows them to anticipate shots and passes, move with positional awareness and display an array of new animations.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard visited EA studios for a motion-capture session highlighting the big changes that will be seen in "FIFA 15."
"The goalkeepers get the short end of the stick," said Howard. "The fact that EA Sports is revamping that position and modifying it in a way to make it much better, realistic, explosive and reactive is cool."
Howard was also really impressed with the amount of effort and technology EA Sports is putting into making the goalkeeper more realistic. The suit was really tight, by design," he says. "All the technology that goes into it, and getting into the suit and how it works and operates is pretty fascinating."
He also talked about some of his goalkeeping idols mentioning Tony Meola and Paolo Maldini. And talked about his thoughts on "Chicharito" after playing against him on numerous occasions.
"Chicharito, he's my nemesis [laughs]. He actually lives near me. We live in South Manchester and I see him quite often at the shops and restaurants," said Howard. "Every time we travel back and forth for the national team we're usually on similar flights. He's a great guy, he's a fantastic guy, he's an extraordinary talent."
Howard also commented on his talent saying, "He's an interesting one because not a lot of Mexican players have made it in the premiere league but not only has he made it there he's done very, very well." He continued, "For me he's not your prototypical Mexican player because he runs the line. He doesn't often come short for balls and link up play. He likes to run beyond what you would consider your number 9. He's been brilliant."
For Howard it's all in good competition and he loves playing against the best. "I think he's fantastic. Every time we play it's always in the back of my head 'he usually gets one up on me and I owe him a few.' I love the challenge of trying to pit myself against the best strikers."
