The 34-year-old woman accused of killing professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson has been caught after a 43-day search in Costa Rica.
The accused, Kaitlin Armstrong, was arrested on Wednesday (June 29), at a hostel on Santa Teresa Beach in Provincia de Puntarenas according to the US Marshalls Service in a report by ABC News.
It was also added that the 34-year-old woman will be deported and returned to the United States.
A warrant of arrest for Armstrong was issued on May 17. She is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Wilson on May 11. It was added that Armstrong was romantically linked to the boyfriend of the deceased, identified as Colin Strickland.
Strickland had been cooperating with police since the shooting of Wilson.
"There is no way to adequately express the regret and torture I feel about my proximity to this horrible crime," Strickland said in a statement to ABC News Austin affiliate KVUE. "I am sorry, and I simply cannot make sense of this unfathomable tragedy."
On the day of the murder, Armstrong was found bleeding and unconscious. She had been found with multiple gunshot wounds at a friend’s house in Austin.
In surveillance footage, a vehicle resembling that of Armstrong was spotted. It was a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was seen stopping outside the friend’s home on the night of the shooting according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Police interviewed Armstrong on May 12 and showed the video footage. The 34-year-old was unable to explain why the vehicle was in the area but did not issue any denials. She requested to leave after being questioned per the affidavit.
Last week, the US Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force tracked down the said vehicle. It was learned that Armstrong had sold the Jeep Grand Cherokee on May 13 to a CarMax dealership for $12,200.
After the transaction, the 34-year-old flew out of an Austin airport. It is believed she boarded a Southwest Airlines flight to Houston Hobby Airport and then went on a connecting flight to New York LaGuardia airport.
