Felipe Viveros García, a 30-year-old Mexican man, has been arrested in the Mexican state of Jalisco suspected of carrying out over 200 murders of kidnapping victims, drug dealers and members or rival cartels. Authorities also believe García is responsible for extorting authorities in the state of Jalisco. The arrest was a combined effort between the National Secuirties Commission and the Attorney General, which also resulted in the arrests of Jose Bernabe, 43 and Froylan Barrera, 40, suspected of similar crimes.
Viveros is suspected of operating in the communities of Teloloapan, Apaxtla de Castrejón, Cuetzala del Progreso, Tepecuacuilco, Iguala de la Independencia and Arcelia in the state of Guerrero as well as various communities in Jalisco. He has been directly linked to at least 10 kidnappings. Bernabe and Barrera are suspected of supplying security information and communication to various criminal organizations in the area. The operation was supported by the country's National Police force and took place in the townships of Tomatlán and Zapopan, Jalisco.
Jalisco and Guerrero have both come to the fore of Mexico's violent drug war. Over 60 bodies ahve been found buried on the border with Michoacan, while in October several petrol stations were attacked by cartel members.
