We know it seems like a daily occurrence that we are discussing the latest escapades of Mexican soccer star Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. However, this time we are not alone in our scrutiny.
On Wednesday, in the middle of their UEFA Champions League match with Bayer Leverkusen, FC Barcelona's English language Twitter account poked fun at the "little pea," with a hilarious tweet.
With Leverkusen up 1-0 on Barcelona at Camp Nou, Chicharito was delivered a perfect pass in front of the Barca net for what should have been an easy goal. Instead, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker sent the ball into orbit as it flew over the net.
The costly mistake would come back to haunt Chicharito and Leverkusen as Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez would score second half goals for FC Barcelona giving the reigning Champions League holders the 2-1 come from behind win.
Hernandez has yet to score a goal in Champions League play for Bayer Leverkusen after scoring his first career Bundesliga goal last week. Chicharito has scored just one goal in six games for the German club since joining them at the end of August.
When asked after the match about Chicharito's wide open miss, Bayer Leverkusen's executive, Rudi Voller had this to see about his new Mexican forward:
"We had amazing chances. When you have chances to score, you need to score at some point – and I am not only referring to Chicharito. Sadly, we only managed one goal."
